In 2012 in Co. Kilkenny, a truly almighty oak tree succumbed to old age. Most of it was used to make into barrels for the local whiskey distillery and luckily for us we managed to salvage the magnificent pieces that didn't make the grade. We thought it appropriate to name this "The Journeyman" given that like these craftsmen, this timber has served its apprenticeship - even though it didn't quite make it to being a barrel - we think it has found its true calling.
The oak timber beam is approx a metre long and 10 cms x 5 cms deep and has 3 vintage style caged LED bulbs suspended from it with cream coloured round, natural hemp rope or chain. The timber beam hangs approx 30cms from the ceiling from two vintage style brass ceiling plates suspended also by cream coloured round, natural hemp rope or chain. The entire piece hangs approx 50cms from the ceiling.
