Anglesea Pendant
This pendant is made from solid pitch pine, rescued from the original Anglesea Stand Stand in the RDS Dublin. Working slowly and carefully, we select suitable beams to work with, discarding the timber that is too buckled or too worn to be of use.
The timber is sawn and cut by hand, then sanded by eye to gently bevell the edges. The natural beauty in the grain is slowly revealed.
The ceiling rose and lamp holder fittings are aged and finished by hand so that the metal work sits quietly alongside the wood rather than competing with it.
Five Edison-style LED bulbs hang at even internals along the length of the frame from twisted black flex which is suspended from an aged brass ceiling rose. The warm amber glow of the filaments sit in quite contrast to the deep grain and aged character of the timber above No two are ever the same.
As the piece is made entirely to order, both the length and the drop height can be tailored to suit the space.
For almost a century, the timber in this pendant witnessed the moments that defined Irish sporting history. It held the roof of the Anglesea Stand at the Royal Dublin Society - home to the prestigious Aga Khan and Irish rugby internationals. When the stand was demolished in 2024, the timber was rescued, nails, bolts and all the cracks of a well lived life.
The timber is pitch pine - the building material of choice for Victorian public buildings and grand civic structures across Britain and Ireland. Prized for its density, its resinous grain and its extraordinay durability, old growth pitch pine is now virtually extinct. What remains exists only in buildings old enough to have used it. This is some of the last of it.
Due to the natural materials and handmade nature of these tables, each is unique and the colour, grain and finish of the wood will vary from piece to piece.
All our pieces are made by hand in our studio in Rathnew, Co. Wicklow using time honoured skills and the finest materials.
Each piece will be indivdually numbered and signed by Eoin.
