Anglesea Table Lamp
For almost a century, this timber witnessed the moments that defined Irish sporting history. It held the roof of the Anglesea Stand at the Royal Dublin Society - home to the prestigious Aga Khan and Irish rugby internationals. When the stand was demolished in 2024, the timber was rescued, nails, bolts and all the cracks of a well lived life.
The timber is pitch pine - the building material of choice for Victorian public buildings and grand civic structures across Britain and Ireland. Prized for its density, its resinous grain and its extraordinay durability, old growth pitch pine is now virtually extinct. What remains exists only in buildings old enough to have used it. This is some of the last of it.
The solid timber base is left largely untouched, retaining its natural grain, markings, and patina earned through decades of use. You'll notice variations in the grain as well as nails and other remants from its time as a beam holding up the roof of the Anglesea stand.
The lamp holder is gently aged brass, finished by hand, a twisted fabric cord and an oversized amber bulb which we have designed as a nod to a rugby ball, in keeping with the Anglesea stand.
Due to the natural materials and handmade nature of these lamps, each is unique and the colour, grain and finish of the wood will vary from lamp to lamp.
All our lamps are made by hand in our studio in Rathnew, Co. Wicklow using time honoured skills and the finest materials.
Each lamp will come with a story card as well as a numbered card, signed by Eoin. Lamps come pre-packaged, ready to be gifted.
